Maple & Tulipwood Turned Ring Holder (1/23/2007)
This piece started out to be a 11" diameter bowl with a wide undercut rim. Things didn't go as planned, and I didn't leave enough material near the rim to account for the distortion seen while drying (using DNA). I tried to take very light cuts in this region but I couldn't help but cut through the rim. So a large-ish artsy bowl was turned into a small-ish ring holder. Diameter is probably 5", and the "finger" wood is a random leftover pen blank - tulipwood maybe. Finish is wipe on poly in anticipation of frequent usage.
