Toys To Donate To "Toys For Tots" (2006) This is the third year our woodworking group decided to make and donate toys to the "Toys For Tots" organization. We have a couple new people coordinating the drive this year, and they've had some great ideas and managed to get a number of donations from Craft Supplies USA. I'm sure this year's drive will be another big success! Here are some of the toys I made this year. Tulipwood, walnut, and lacewood yo-yo's:
Drawing Tops (these are hard maple spinning tops that
have markers for centers and will draw spiral shapes when they're spun
with the caps removed) of hard maple finished with chatter, markers, and beeswax:
As I was making the tops I would test each one to make sure it spun ok and that the marker worked. In the end the scrap piece of ply I used to test them looked way cool - might have to hang it up somewhere as a momento: And here's a closeup of one so you can see how they work: I hope they make a few kids smile on Christmas morning. © Copyright 2006 Chris Billman |
