Chris Billman’s
Woodworking Bio
Who am I?: Don't
you find it strange when people
write about themselves in the third person? I'm gonna try not to do
that. I'll also try not to bore you to tears.
I was born in Easton, PA waaay back in the 20th century.
I
earned a couple engineering degrees from Penn State, and met my wife
after college in Toledo, OH. We moved from Toledo, OH to Columbus, OH
to Waxahachie, TX to State College, PA to Huntingdon, PA to Westland,
MI and finally to our current home in Ypsilanti Township, MI. We love
it here and hope to stay a long long time.
My wife was crazy enough to marry me in 1994, and we now
have
two young daughters (happy happy, joy joy!!). To pay the bills I work
as a Noise Vibration and Harshness Engineering Supervisor for an automotive
OEM. I get to drive lots of different vehicles and use some cool
technology. It's a great job!
I've been interested in woodworking since I was a young
boy.
My step-grandfather always had a few projects brewing in his single-car
garage woodshop, and he helped me cobble together my first true
"project" in high school. NYW was also a formative influence on me as
it was on countless weekend warriors.
I started building my own tool collection in earnest in
the
early 1990's. It's been steadily growing ever since, and I've been
struggling to advance my skills as well. Lifelong learning is one of my
core values as is evidenced by attendance at formal courses, giving
occasional instructional demonstrations, mentoring new woodworkers, and
maintaining an extensive woodworking book, magazine, and video library.
I'm a woodworking junkie (not that there's anything wrong with that).
